Welcome back

Thanks for taking the time to read the first of what I hope will be many regular updates here on our website.

School is now back in full swing and we are delighted to have all our young people back in the building. It has been a real pleasure to see so many looking so smart and engaging whole heartedly in their learning.

Our arrangements to keep everyone safe are also operating well and it is clear that young people are well versed in hand sanitizing routines already. S1 are settling into the routines well too and our senior students have been a fantastic support to them in particular during the first week. We are continuing to reflect on our routines and make minor adjustments where appropriate.

Staffing

You may already be aware that Mr Hood was involved in a road traffic accident over the summer that means he has been unable to return to school with us this August. He is missing everyone at school, concentrating on getting well and will return to us when he has made a full recovery. Mr Brown has been appointed as Acting Depute Headteacher with responsibility for S1.

Miss McGugan will return to Acting Principal Teacher of Pastoral Care in Mr Brown’s place. Mrs Gray has also been appointed to Acting Principal Teacher of Pastoral Care as Mrs Wilson has not been able to return to us yet after the summer.

We wish them all every success and hope to see our absent colleagues back with us soon.

SQA Awards

Like many of you, we were delighted by the decision of the SQA to award our senior students their teacher-assessed estimates as their final grades. Staff in the school engaged in a rigorous process to ensure that all the hard work of students was recognised and we feel that there has been a more just outcome for individuals as a result of that decision. Good luck to all those who are leaving us.

Uniform

Thanks for supporting us in this. Young people are really looking the part and as someone new to the school, I have been really impressed with how the vast majority of our young people look. If we aspire to be the best, then we should look our best.

Uniform items can be purchased at www.logoxpres.co.uk

We will continue to support individual families where accessing uniform items has been tricky.

Lunch arrangements

You will have seen from a previous correspondence that Glasgow City Council has adopted a new procedure to minimise cash handling in schools. Facility to pay online through your bank is now available and we are operating emergency cash arrangements for you to ensure that no-one goes without. During this time, those entitled to a free school meal are only able to access this at lunchtime. Any food at break time must be purchased separately.

We are finalising arrangements to ensure everyone has access to food at interval time. Please bear with us whilst we do so.

All the latest information from Glasgow City Council regarding this - and all the arrangements to support our return to school - can be accessed here.

iPad rollout

We are delighted to confirm that we will be rolling out our ipads to every young person starting in September. Glasgow City Council has been accelerating the rollout post-lockdown to ensure that every young person can have digital support for their learning. More details will follow in the coming weeks including the home-school agreement that needs to be returned by every family before their individual ipads can be issued.

Covid in the community

Please support us in reminding young people that they must wear face coverings in shops and on public transport. As they are not required to do so at school, some young people are forgetting to do so when in public situations that require it. We will be reminding them regularly and Cheryl, our campus police officer is also supporting us in this.

We always want to hear from you about suggestions for improvement and our Parent Council frequently organise events that support this. Please get in touch with them if you have suggestions or would like to support them in their work.

Thanks again,

Patrick OBerg
