Supported Study plan of action

Monday 30th October

Listening Skills Workshop

Focus on:

· Reading the questions for context, then to identify key words

· Predicting what you may hear

· Applying common sense

· Making notes as you listen

· Listening for key information, not to understand every word

We will spend time on the listening skills noted above and also give you information on online resources you can use in your own time to practise.  This session will take place in ICT room TBC.

Monday 6th November

Talking Skills Workshop - Presentation

Focus on:

· Delivering a presentation which is of a N5 standard – we will refer to marking guidelines and identify if our presentations meet the standards

· Pronunciation – focus on making pronunciation clear enough to be understood by a sympathetic native speaker

· Tone and pace – delivering in a natural way that is not rushed/overly rehearsed

· Building confidence

We will spend time on the talking skills noted above and also give you the chance to record your presentations, or for the teacher to record so you have accurate pronunciation to listen to and copy.

Monday 13th November

Talking Skills Workshop – Conversation

Focus on:

· Dealing with the more unpredictable element of the follow-up conversation

· Conversation will always start with a question on your presentation but then it must go into another context – examples of potential questions for conversation will be discussed

· How to pause and buy yourself thinking time using French phrases

· Focussing on basic conversation and feeling comfortable with this

We will focus on building confidence with the basics – also building up your understanding of spoken French and your ability to give answers to questions which may not always be predictable.

Monday 20th November

Reading Skills Workshop

Focus on:

· Reading the title and questions for context, then questions in more detail for key words

· Starting with what you know – identifying cognates, familiar vocab, key verbs etc.

· Careful use of dictionaries to check meaning – as a last resort

· Ensuring your answers are sufficiently detailed to gain the marks allocated

We will focus on the above and also on basic grammar points.
