Covid 19 update

Thanks so much for all your support with all the measures we are putting in place to keep everyone safe.

Over the next two weeks, we will be asking young people to feedback to us about how they think systems are working as we look to make changes where they are necessary. If you have any feedback directly for us please email headteacher@smithycroft-sec.glasgow.sch.uk

Staggered Lunch

In order to support better social distancing at lunchtime, we have decided to split our lunch as per the attached arrangements. This means that we will have two sittings and effectively half the number of young people in the street area - as we do at interval times currently. Feedback from young people has shown support for this. The start and finish times of the school day remain unaffected.

This will start from Monday 14th September.

Face coverings

We continue to remind all young people that face coverings should be worn in communal areas and on corridors. Thank you for supporting us with this. We are launching a new system whereby anyone identified through Pastoral Care as exempt will be able to easily identify themselves should they be asked to put a face covering on. Please support us by making clear to your young person that face coverings should be worn at all times specified above.

COVID related symptoms

In the event that your child develops any of the symptoms of Covid-19, please arrange them to be tested. This can be done by visiting the NHS Inform website – www.nhsinform.scot.

 The symptoms are:

 • the onset of a persistent cough

 • or a temperature/fever

 • or a loss of taste or smell

Where any absence is covid-related, please contact the school to record this Covid related absence or self-isolating. Please also remember it is important to keep us updated of your child’s continued absence from school depending on the outcome of a test or in fact their intended return to school in order that we can arrange to update their attendance appropriately.

Should your child receive a positive test, please let us know immediately and follow the advice given to you by Health Protection staff.

If any member of your household displays symptoms, your child should not attend school until the symptomatic family member has received a negative test result.  Again, please remember to advise the school office accordingly of their absence and notify us again prior to their return in order that attendance can be marked accordingly.

If any member of your household tests positive for Covid-19, everyone in the household must isolate for 14 days even if they have no symptoms or if they are tested and receive a negative test result.

If any member of your household has been told by contact tracers to self – isolate as a result of close contact with someone who has tested positive, everyone in the household must isolate for 14 days

Even if they have no symptoms or if they are tested and receive a negative test result.

Thank you for your support and should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact the school. The school website also has listed currently an information letter from NHS Director of Public Health.
