There are three units in National 4 & 5 Geography; Physical Environments, Human Environments and Global Issues.

National 4 candidates work is internally assessed through unit assessments and an added value unit.
National 5 candidates have two forms of assessment – a question paper worth 80 marks and an assignment worth 20 marks. Both are externally marked by the SQA.

Application of Geographical Skills
The final section in the exam paper worth 10 marks Candidates use their geographical skills to analyse and interpret large quantities of data from graphs, tables, pictures, charts and diagrams.
Higher candidates have two forms of assessment – a question paper worth 60 marks and an assignment worth 30 marks. Both are externally marked by the SQA.
