Endangered Animals

Level 3 Progress 4

Your young person independently combines precise evidence from maps, graphs and research. They describe detailed geographical patterns, accurately locate complex features and reach well-supported conclusions about endangered animals.

They accurately describe natural environments and explain at least three detailed links between climate, physical features, living things and animal adaptations. They can apply these links to unfamiliar examples.

They give developed explanations of at least three consequences of environmental issues and match each with a realistic response. They make a well-supported judgement about the best strategy, considering effectiveness, scale and limitations.

Level 3 Progress 3

Your young person accurately uses maps, graphs, keys and research to locate endangered animals, describe distribution with several relevant details and form a clear conclusion from at least two sources.

They describe the climate, physical features and living things of a natural environment and clearly explain at least three links between them, including how adaptations help animals survive.

They clearly explain at least three consequences of an environmental issue and suggest an appropriate response to each. They identify a preferred strategy and support their choice with geographical reasons.

Level 3  Progress 2

Your young person uses maps, graphs, keys or research to locate endangered animals and identify some patterns. Some locations, figures or conclusions need more accuracy or detail.

They describe the main features of a biome and explain some links to animal adaptation and survival. Some links or geographical terms need further development.

They explain some consequences of habitat loss, climate change or poaching and suggest relevant management strategies. Some links between problems, solutions or judgements need more development.

Level 3   Progress 1

Within Level 3 tasks, your young person locates some animals or geographical features and extracts simple information from a map, graph, key or source when prompted. They need support to describe patterns or reach a conclusion.

They identify basic features of a biome and an animal adaptation when guided. They are beginning to explain a link between climate, physical features and living things.

They identify an environmental issue, a consequence and a possible response when prompted. They need support to explain the cause-and-effect link and why a response may work.

Natural Hazards

Level 3 Progress 4

Your young person independently gives detailed and accurate explanations of how Earth structure, convection and plate movement create volcanic landscapes. They link at least three processes clearly and apply their understanding to different volcanic examples.

They give developed explanations of at least three social, economic or environmental consequences and match each with a realistic strategy. They make a well-supported judgement about effectiveness and possible limitations.

They independently combine precise evidence from maps, graphs and other sources. They use locations, patterns, figures and calculations accurately to reach a detailed, well-supported geographical conclusion.

Level 3 Progress 3

Your young person accurately explains Earth structure, plate movement and volcano formation, linking at least three processes in the correct sequence and using appropriate geographical vocabulary.

They clearly explain at least three consequences of a volcanic eruption and suggest an appropriate preparation, response or recovery strategy for each, using a named case study such as Mount St Helens.

They accurately interpret at least two maps, graphs or sources, use relevant locations and figures to describe patterns or changes and form a clear conclusion supported by evidence.

Level 3  Progress 2

Your young person describes Earth structure, plate movement and the main stages of volcano formation and explains some links. Some stages, terms or cause-and-effect links need greater accuracy or development.

They explain some consequences and suggest relevant preparation, response or recovery strategies. Some links between impacts and management need more detail.

They extract relevant information from maps, graphs or other sources and describe some patterns or changes. Some locations, figures, calculations or conclusions need more accuracy.

Level 3  Progress 1

Within Level 3 tasks, your young person identifies Earth layers, plate features or parts of a volcano and places some formation stages in order when guided. They need support to explain how the processes connect.

They identify a consequence of an eruption and a possible preparation, response or recovery strategy when prompted. They need support to explain why the strategy may help.

They locate a feature or extract simple information from a map, graph or source when prompted. They need support to describe a pattern, use figures accurately or reach a conclusion.
