Mentors in Violence Prevention

The Mentors in Violence Prevention programme is a multinational initiative devised by Jackson Katz – an American educator, filmmaker, and author. It has spread from America into the UK and beyond and stakeholders at Smithycroft Secondary are taking forward the initiative in our Curriculum.

The MVP programme encourages participants to reflect upon gender roles and the way they influence behaviour in society. It also looks closely at the effect the media has on creating and upholding these gender stereotypes.

The purpose of the programme is to teach students how problematic behaviours such as abuse and domestic violence can be challenged effectively in their social circles and also be prevented from occurring within their own personal relationships.
